Championship History
Sweden's title history began with match play in 1917, before the annual championship tournament became the standard title route. The early period includes names such as Gustaf Nyholm, Allan Nilsson, and Gideon Ståhlberg.
From 1939 the official championship was decided by tournament results. Erik Lundin and Axel Ornstein became the most frequent listed winners, while later champions include Evgeny Agrest, Hans Tikkanen, and Nils Grandelius.
The 2025 Schack-SM in Uppsala ended with Jung Min Seo taking his second Swedish title after a playoff against Erik Blomqvist.
