The title has passed through repeated champions such as Antonio Medina, Arturo Pomar, Juan Manuel Bellón López, Miguel Illescas, and Eduardo Iturrizaga. Recent editions have been staged as large Swiss events alongside the women's championship.

The 2025 Spanish Championship was played in Marbella. David Antón Guijarro won the absolute title, his second listed Spanish championship after 2020.
