Chess endgame roadmap

Chess Endgame Course

Learn endgames in the order they become useful: first the basic mates, then coordinated rook technique, then practical king-and-pawn ideas. Each section gives you a rating band, lesson path, replay board, and practice positions against Stockfish.

How To Use This Course

This endgame course is built as a practical roadmap. Start with the checkmates that decide beginner games, then move into rook technique, queen technique, and king-and-pawn endings. Each rating band introduces the ideas most likely to appear and be useful in real games at that level.

Use each lesson in three passes. First, read the key concepts and common mistakes. Second, replay the model position until the plan feels natural. Try to understand the endgame with the help of the annotated moves. Third, solve the practice positions without moving too quickly. The goal is not memorizing exact lines, but learning the pattern taught: restrict the king, improve your pieces, avoid stalemate, and convert the advantage cleanly.

After studying a section, continue into Endgame Practice to test the same skills against the engine. That combination of lesson, replay, and practical play helps turn theoretical endings into habits you can use in your own games.
