Bio

Anna Ushenina won the 2012 Women's World Championship knockout, defeating Antoaneta Stefanova in the final. Her victory was one of the most dramatic examples of the knockout format producing a new champion.

Ushenina's title run required flexibility across many opponents and rapid changes in match situation. She showed composure in tiebreak conditions where one mistake could end the event.

Her reign was short, ending in a 2013 match against Hou Yifan, but her championship remains a major achievement for Ukrainian chess.

Style
