Bio

Olga Rubtsova became Women's World Champion in 1956 after a three-player match-tournament against Rudenko and Bykova. Her title run came in one of the most competitive early Soviet championship periods.

Rubtsova was also an outstanding correspondence player, later becoming women's correspondence world champion. That analytical background fits the character of her chess: careful, resourceful, and tactically alert.

Although her over-the-board reign lasted only two years, her broader record gives her a unique place among champions. She proved that deep analysis and practical competition could reinforce each other.
