Solitaire Chess
One board. No opponent. Find the capture sequence that leaves just one piece.
4 pieces remaining · 0 captures
Capture pieces until only the king remains.
How to play Solitaire Chess
Every move must capture another piece. All pieces belong to you and move in their usual patterns. Each piece can capture at most twice. The king cannot be captured and must be the last piece standing.
Pawns capture one square diagonally towards rank 8. There are no quiet moves, checks, castling, en passant or promotions. Click a piece and its destination, or drag it onto another piece.
Captures used
- K d4: 0/2
- R d5: 0/2
- R a5: 0/2
- R a8: 0/2
Practise calculation with solo chess puzzles
Solitaire Chess is a single-player chess puzzle about capture order. Look for pieces with few available captures, keep sliding paths open, and plan where each piece will land. A legal capture can still leave an impossible position, so calculate the whole sequence before committing.
Start with four pieces, then try six or eight. Every new puzzle is built from a legal solution. Undo lets you explore alternatives, while Hint finds a winning continuation from your current position when one exists.
